How Not to Hang Artwork

Here are some of the most common mistakes made when hanging art so you can avoid an expensive disaster. Our RFA Decor art installers have heard their fair share of art-hanging horror stories and wanted to share some tips to help you avoid these mishaps.

  • Using art hangers that are not suitable for the weight of the work. When hanging artwork be sure to assess four very important factors: the type of wall you plan on hanging the artwork on, the type of art you are hanging, the type of hanger, and the weight of the work.
  • Hanging artwork in direct sunlight. A common mistake is placing art in direct sunlight. Sunlight damage can not be undone and can severely fade the art. Our Boca Raton art handlers recommend using a translucent protective film on your windows or using a special glass for your framed art on paper to block out UV rays.
  • Not using special glass to protect your art on paper. Framing art on paper under glass can help protects the art and its value. There are several specialized types of glass available to enhance and protect your artwork:
    • Non-glare glass
    • Anti-reflective glass
    • UV-protection glass
    • Museum glass
  • Hanging art in a space without climate control. Don’t forget about humidity, as it can severely affect the artwork. The best humidity level for displaying artwork is about 55%, with the temperature at roughly about 65-70 degrees.
